Ultimate Guide to My Universal Photos

Ultimate Guide to My Universal Photos

Share this post:

There are two ways most people go about taking photos on vacation: having someone in your party not be in the photo or asking a stranger to take the photo for you. Here at Universal Orlando Resort, we have an ideal third option—My Universal Photos.

My Universal Photos takes the stress out of your vacation by helping you capture your unforgettable experiences here and share them with friends and family. With all of the awesome photo opportunities throughout the parks, we’ve got you covered—whether you’re screaming your face off on one of our high-speed coasters or coming face-to-face with spectacular, cinematic icons.

Here’s how it works:

1. Purchase Your Preferred Package

My Universal Photos at Raptor Encounter

My Universal Photos has three different packages to make sure you’re properly set up for your day (or days) of play:

  • 1-Day Photo Package: This package gives you one full day of photos at any of our three parks with exclusive pricing on park photo prints and unlimited digital downloads. It also includes a My Universal Photos themed lanyard and card, discounts on photo gift products, as well as one 4×6 and one 5×7 photo print at time of purchase.
  • 3-Day Photo Package: This option allows up to three consecutive days of photos in the parks beginning on the day you pick up your My Universal Photos lanyard and card. You also receive one free 5×7 print in a folder and one free 4×6 print valid in-park or online, plus a few other exclusive discounts.
  • 1-Day Photo Package at Volcano Bay: If you’re just looking for a slice of Waturi paradise, this package is for you. With your one day of photos at Universal’s Volcano Bay (as with all packages), you get unlimited digital downloads and the ability to view and share your photos forever.

2. Time to Have Some Fun!

Universal's Volcano Bay TapTu Snap

Once you’ve ordered your package, show your confirmation email at a merchandise location where Universal Express Pass is sold or at the My Universal Photos stores in the parks. A Team Member will give you your photo card and then you’re all set! There are three different ways to capture your vacation memories:

  • Have one of our professional photographers scan your card before taking a photo.
  • Scan it yourself at one of our selfie stations.
  • Scan it at a kiosk at the end of any participating rides.

The photos automatically show up on your My Universal Photos account, which you’ll be emailed a password and link to.

3. Photos at Your Fingertips

Make your friends jealous by sharing your adventures with the Amazing Pictures Mobile App. Download the app and log in with your email address and the password you were given. The photos you take during your day will be uploaded automatically. Once you see them, share them to your heart’s content. Click on a photo and send it via text, post it on social media, or even just download it to your camera roll. It’s super easy to share the fun.

4. Memories that Last a Lifetime

My Universal Photos at Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

Relive your fun-filled moments and choose which ones you want to keep forever. When you’re in the park, head to a standalone photo store or a ride photo location to get an individual print. You can also order prints of your favorite pics from home or print them on items like mugs, Christmas ornaments and more. There are tons of products to choose from.

It’s as simple as that. With over 30 locations to smile or scream, all you need to worry about is deciding which ride to go on next. Click here to get started. Say cheese!

Nighttime is the Right Time with On-Site Hotel Entertainment

Nighttime is the Right Time with On-Site Hotel Entertainment

Share this post:

Everyone enjoys Universal Orlando Resort’s three amazing theme parks during the day. But did you know how much entertainment there is to do—right at your on-site hotel—when you return from a day of big fun?

Well, I was fortunate enough to experience a wide array of nighttime entertainment that allowed me to continue the fun into the wee hours of the morning!

Bar 17 Bistro at Universal’s Aventura Hotel

GIF

Where else can you enjoy a beautiful sunset, 17 floors up, with your favorite friends and family? Only at Universal’s Aventura Hotel! This rooftop bar features delicious signature drinks and scrumptious small plates that will be the perfect complement to your breathtaking views of not only Universal Orlando Resort’s three amazing theme parks, but the Orlando skyline. After a long day in the parks, this is the absolute perfect place to kick back, relax, and enjoy the view.

Musica della Notte at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel

GIF

If you’re staying at Lowe’s Portofino Bay Hotel—or even just venture over to take in the re-creation of the famed seaside village of Portofino, Italy—you simply cannot miss Musica della Notte. What could be more romantic than looking across the lagoon with that special someone, while you’re serenaded by the live classically trained opera singers? This performance takes place every night at sunset in the Harbor Piazza, weather permitting.

Strong Water Tavern at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort

GIF

If you want to experience more than your average hotel lobby bar, you’ve got to hit Strong Water Tavern. This crown jewel is essential for rum lovers, with its selection of more than 100 different types of rum. This also makes it perfect for anyone looking to try something new and delicious. Don’t worry if you need some help on where to start. You can be hooked up with your very own personal “Rum Captain,” who will assist you in creating the perfect rum flight for your palette! Pair your new favorite drinks with a few Caribbean-style tapas, and you’ll agree that Strong Water Tavern is an experience that can’t be missed.

Caribbean Carnaval at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort

GIF

Friday night is party night, and there’s no party like Caribbean Carnaval at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort! You’ll get to experience the rich sounds and delightful tastes of the Caribbean islands’ best cuisine, signature drinks (don’t miss the Rum Punch!) and live music. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet with plenty of song, dance, beautiful costumes, and my favorite…the limbo!

Velvet Sessions at Hard Rock Hotel

GIF

When you’re in the mood to ROCK, there’s only one place to go and that’s the Hard Rock Hotel for the award-winning Velvet Sessions. Nearly every month, the hotel lobby is transformed into the party you’ve been looking for, featuring live music from some of the most legendary acts in rock n’ roll history. Before the show, enjoy rockin’ drinks and fabulous finger foods while jamming with other music lovers—it’s all included with your Velvet Sessions ticket. You can even upgrade to a VIP experience and really party like a rock star at Orlando’s biggest rock ‘n roll cocktail party.

Galaxy Bowl at Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort

GIF

We all love Cabana Bay’s retro theme. But did you know that it extends beyond the classic cars and groovy decor? If you want to re-live your bowling league days (like me), then Galaxy Bowl is the place for you! Gather up everyone in your party and head over to this 50s-themed bowling alley that will transport you back in time for an unforgettable bowling experience. Chow down on all of the tasty foods from the full menu and enjoy your favorite drinks, served however you’d like—even in a bowling pin! Galaxy Bowl can be fun for the whole family, a friend’s night out, or just you and that special someone. Grab your shoes, fill your belly, and get ready to knock ‘em down!

Wantilan Luau at Loews Royal Pacific Resort

GIF

And if you’re looking for a trip to the other side of the globe, I’ve got the ticket for you—the Wantilan Luau. Turn up the excitement on your Saturday night with hula and fire dancers while you enjoy a tropical all-you-can-eat buffet, complete with pit-roasted pig. Throw in the live music and casual outdoor environment, and you’ll be instantly transported straight to the South Pacific for a true island party.

So yeah, there’s so much to do at the theme parks. But stay with Universal and you’re steps away from all kinds of nighttime entertainment options.

There is no better feeling than standing comfortably in Universal Studios Florida, stretching your arms out to soak in the perfect #UniversalSZN weather and smiling as you notice the low wait times for your favorite rides.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the best time of the year to visit Universal Orlando Resort and here are the top 6 reasons why…

volcano bay universal orlando resort couples vacation

1. The Gorgeous Weather!

Florida is known for its beautiful weather year round, but #UniversalSZN is particularly great because you still get all the benefits of the amazing weather – it is STILL summer and not too hot plus you can leave the SPF 80 sunscreen at home. And if you’re looking for a miniature tropical getaway, be sure escape to Volcano Bay!

Here is what you can expect at night and during the day while visiting the parks in the #UniversalSZN.

  • During the Day: Throw on that bathing suit you thought you were putting away until next summer and spend the day floating around on the Kopiko Wai Winding River at Volcano Bay.Local Tip: Lookout for entrance signage that reads “Ride Now!” You’ll be able to tap right into those rides without losing your place in the Virtual Line for another attraction.

  • Nighttime: The #UniversalSZN weather is perfect for you to break out your Gryffindor sweater or scarf (or Slytherin if you’re like me) and find your way over to experience The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle!

Also, be sure not to miss the all new Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration that takes you into the movies like never before.

Local Tip: Plan to arrive early so you can get a prime spot to view these incredible shows.

2. Fewer Crowds

Prefer not feeling like you’re performing an awkward new dance as you weave in and out of crowds? What’s great about the #UniversalSZN season is that there is just the right amount of room to be comfortable and strut your stuff as you make your way to your favorite ride!

Local Tip: Check out the Insider Tips Blog to get the most out of your visit to the parks.

3. Premium Pool Seating

Lounging in a beach chair anywhere at Universal Orlando, of course, is amazing, but having the best view in the park to go along with it is priceless.

Whether it’s having breakfast with the Grinch or dinner at the award-winning Mythos, the #UniversalSZN season is the perfect time to try that Universal Orlando restaurant you have always wanted to dig into.

Local Tip: Visit your choice restaurant at the start of your park journey to secure the best reservation time or conveniently book your reservation online.

5. Take Epic Photos!

Love filling up your Instagram page with epic Universal Orlando photos? Me too! Take advantage of the lower crowds to get that epic fire-breathing dragon photo in Diagon Alley you have always been dreaming of!

Local Tip: Check out a few of our Top Instagram Worthy #WallsOfUniversal for great photo spots hidden around the park.

6. Shorter Wait Lines

No need to feel rushed as you make your way through the park to your favorite ride to get a prime spot in line. You can actually take your time! Stop off for a cold drink at Finnegan’s Bar & Grill and still get a prime spot in line.

Local Tip: Do you have a preference for sitting in the front or back of a ride? Simply let the ride attendant know your preferred position and there may be an opportunity for them to assist you on some attractions.

What are you looking forward to most this season? Anything we missed?

Get Your Tickets for Rock the Universe 2019 Now

Rock the Universe has been held at Universal Orlando Resort since 1998, and I’m proud to say this was my 10th year in attendance. And if you haven’t heard, Rock the Universe is moving its dates from September to February and tickets are on sale now!

This weekend of inspirational concerts holds a special place in my heart—and not just because there are tons of awesome Christian artists, exciting rides and entertainment. It’s because my birthday is in September, which used to be right around the time of this event! When I was younger, my parents let me take off school, we’d hop in the car, drive down from Jacksonville, and we’d spend the whole weekend at the theme parks—every kid’s dream!

Concerts at Rock the Universe

Since then, I’ve grown up and have actually moved to Orlando. But I still love worshiping at Rock the Universe and screaming at the top of my lungs on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit with my family. For a while, it doesn’t quite feel like you’re in a theme park. It feels like a Sunday morning or (depending on which concert you go to) being at youth camp again. You see the same people every Sunday at church, but here you get to worship with people from around the world.

Check out a few tips and tricks I’ve learned as a 10-year veteran of Rock the Universe.

The Concerts

Rock the Universe Concerts

There are several stages spread throughout the parks, so make sure you plan ahead and check your map to see where your favorite bands are playing.

The Coca-Cola Fan Zone

Coca-Cola Fan Zone at Rock the Universe

There’s a live DJ, dancing and autograph sessions with your favorite artists. This is a great place to check out the up-and-coming Christian artists and dance with your friends.

Youth Leaders Lounge

Youth Leader Lounge at Rock the Universe

Youth group leaders enjoy special perks, such as one free ticket for every 10 purchased and exclusive access to chaperone lounges stocked with snacks and refreshments.

The Rides

Revenge of the Mummy - Universal Studios Florida

Most rides are open throughout the event, so in-between concerts you can have a thrilling theme park experience!

Saturday Candlelighting Ceremony

Join together Saturday evening at the Music Plaza Stage with a special message and live music from one of the headlining acts.

Sunday Morning Worship Service

Wrap up the weekend Sunday morning with a worship service. This event is already included with your event ticket – but space is limited, so be sure to sign up in advance.

As I mentioned, Rock the Universe 2019 has moved to Feb. 1 and 2. Here is the full list of headlining artists for next year:

Friday, Feb. 1

  • Lecrae
  • Matthew West
  • Big Daddy Weave
  • Colton Dixon
  • Matt Mahar
  • Rhett Walker Band

Saturday, Feb. 2

  • Skillet
  • Bethel Music
  • Crowder
  • Francesca Battistelli
  • Micah Tyler
  • LEDGER

Now that Rock the Universe is in February, it will be cooler than ever. Tickets are on sale now, so don’t miss your chance to be a part of Florida’s biggest Christian music festival. I’ll see you in February!

There’s no better way to beat the heat of summer than to dream of cooler weather and start planning a holiday vacation. Here are 6 reasons why it’s never too early to plan for the Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort, November 17-January 6.

1. Christmas Cheer and Hot Butterbeer

Hot Butterbeer During Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

During the summer, nothing beats a cold or frozen Butterbeer. But during the holidays, hot Butterbeer is a seasonal favorite for witches, wizards and Muggles alike. Grab a cup and cozy up as you watch special holiday-themed shows from the Frog Choir and Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees. Admire the festive window dressings as you stroll through The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. When the sun sets, witness The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle – a wonderous nighttime projection light show in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade.

2. Balloons That Make Anyone Feel Merry

Universal's Holiday Parade featuring Macy's - Despicable Me Balloon

Cool Off Your Summer by Planning for Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort

Tips to Experience Halloween Horror Nights Like a Pro

Tips to Experience Halloween Horror Nights Like a Pro

Share this post:

Since I’ve been attending Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights for nearly two decades now (and I don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon), I wanted to share some tips to help you get the most out of your visit this year.

I remember the first time I experienced the event (circa. 2001). The scares, the haunted houses, the adrenaline rush—it was unlike anything I had ever experienced. It’s so fun and terrifying at the same time. I quickly became addicted and haven’t missed a year since.

These tips have helped me and my friends a TON. I hope they’ll do the same for you.

BEFORE YOU GO…

1. Have a Game Plan

Universal's Halloween Horror Nights Scare Zone

There’s a lot to see and do at Halloween Horror Nights, so it helps to plan ahead. What are the haunted houses you really want to experience? Which scare zones must you hit? Which attractions do you want to ride to take a break from the screams? Check out the event map, talk it out with your friends and come up with a list of the must-dos.

2. Make Sure You’re Well Rested

Halloween Horror Nights kicks off at 6:30p on event nights and closes in the wee hours of the morning. You don’t want your fatigue to be the reason you head home early! Take a nice afternoon nap, grab a coffee, or whatever it takes to help you feel rejuvenated for the event.

3. Dress Comfortably (And Check Your Footwear)

GIF Wear Comfortable Shoes at Halloween Horror Nights

I can’t stress this enough. Remember, Halloween Horror Nights is a very intense event, and we all react differently to being scared (some run, some crouch, some freeze and some flail). Make sure you’re dressed appropriately for whatever your coping mechanism may be.

And wear comfortable shoes. The only thing worse than being stalked by a horrifying chainsaw clown is trying to escape them in a pair of shoes you regret wearing.

4. Be Mindful of Your Hair Style

GIF Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights Tips

This may seem kind of random, but this ties to tip #3. You’re going to be pretty active during your visit, so make sure you’re rocking a hair style that works for you in the horror environment. Sometimes, I wear my hair away from my face so I can see everything that’s happening (and it keeps me cooler).

5. Try to Carry as Little as Possible

If you can, try to carry only the essentials with you during your visit, like your car keys, wallets, diaper (if you’re really that scared). You won’t want to lug a huge bag around all night. This will also help you move a little quicker through the Security line.

WHILE YOU’RE HERE…

6. Take a Picture of Where You Parked

Because your memory is going to be jam-packed with all of the frights you experienced—and it’s really important to find your car at the end of the night.

7. Visit the Park During the Day

If you visit Universal Studios Florida during the day and have an admission ticket for Halloween Horror Nights that evening, you’ll have a huge advantage over guests who are only attending the event. When the park closes for daytime operation and begins the switchover to Halloween Horror Nights, you’ll actually be held in a designated area in park until the event opens. Then, once it starts, you’ll be released into the event – so you’re already in park while others are just starting to enter the front gate. This will help you get to those haunted houses a little bit quicker.

8. Arrive Early

Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights

If you choose not to visit the park during the day, I highly recommend you arrive early. Give yourself time to park, go through Security and venture through Universal CityWalk to Universal Studios. You can knock out some of the haunted houses pretty quickly if you’re one of the first inside the event.

9. Go Against the Grain

Halloween Horror Nights is sensory overload and often times, guests stop at the first haunted house or scare zone they see. Don’t be afraid to do the opposite. Once you get into the park, consider going straight to the back and to the furthest house. There’s a good chance that the wait times are going to be shorter.

10. Enjoy the Scare Zones

GIF Universal Orlando Halloween Horror Nights Scare Zone

A lot of people rush through the scare zones – and I get it. You’re being stalked by scareactors and you’re just trying to make it to the other side. But try to find a spot where you can just watch the action in the streets. Sometimes, there are special show moments in the scare zones that you may miss if you just rush through. Plus, it’s SO entertaining to watch other folks get scared.

11. Take Time to Ride the Rides

People come to Halloween Horror Nights for the scares…but make sure you take a moment to experience some of the attractions as well. The wait times are often shorter during the event than they are during the day. Plus, the rides will provide you a nice break from the screams.

12. Keep Your Eyes Peeled

Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights Scareactor

Remember how I was talking about coping mechanisms earlier? Well, one I see pretty often is people covering their eyes. If you can, try not to do this. There are a ton of details and easter eggs you’ll miss if you aren’t looking. Trust me – no matter how scared you are, try (your best) to keep your eyes open. Besides, who wouldn’t WANT to get a good look at the scareactors that are preying upon them? Okay, maybe not…

13. Stay Hydrated and Grab Food

You’re going to scream…a lot! And screaming takes a ton of energy. Make sure you drink water (or whatever your beverage of choice is…I won’t judge!) throughout the night to stay hydrated. And grab food—you don’t want to be hangry. You can either grab dinner prior to your visit or take advantage of all of the eateries in the park. To really amp up your night, consider a Scareactor Dining experience.

14. Play a Game While You’re Waiting in the Queues

GIF TERROR Trivia on The Universal Orlando Resort App

One way to make time go by a little faster while you’re waiting in a queue is to play a mobile game. Check out our new TERROR TRIVIA game in The Official Universal Orlando Resort App. You can test your knowledge on this year’s haunted houses and all things Halloween Horror Nights.

15. Take Photos

Tips on Experiencing Halloween Horror Nights Like a Pro

If you didn’t post about it, did it really happen? Make sure to capture the moments and take selfies and photos throughout the event. The visuals help when you’re recounting your experience with your friends. And they make great profile pics. Make sure you tag us with #HHN28!

And for all my first timers out there, here’s a recap of tips specifically for you!

There you have it, some of my top tips to get the most out of your Halloween Horror Nights visit. Any tips you would add? Let me know in the comments below.

If you haven’t already, choose an event night Sept. 14 – Nov. 3. Grab your tickets and I’ll see you out there!

Five Reasons Why Fall is the Best at Volcano Bay

Five Reasons Why Fall is the Best at Volcano Bay

Share this post:

It’s almost that time of year again! The trees turn orange and the weather gets cooler, except at Volcano Bay because it’s still summer here.

While autumn is typically the beginning of shorter and colder days, summer paradise never ends at Volcano Bay. Here are the top ways you can live your best life at Volcano Bay this fall:

1. More Ride Time in the Fall
Universal's Volcano Bay Krakatau Aqua CoasterBecause there are less people in our paradise in the fall, you can enjoy more attractions in a day while still having ideal summer weather as your backdrop. Look out for attractions that have a “Ride Now” status as these attractions will enable you to get to the fun faster…such as conquering that 125 foot drop on the Ko’okiri Body Plunge.

2. Summer Luxury at Your Doorstep
Family at Volcano Bay
Indulge with incredible offerings that you can enjoy year-round. Cabanas and premium seating options can elevate your visit to the next level. Treating your family to this added luxury is an ideal way to make the most of a fall escape to a summer paradise.

3. Delighting in Different Food Options in the Fall
Chicken and Steak Tacos - Volcano Bay Feasting Frog
With the fall sentiment in the air, you should definitely try some of the food items you probably have not experienced during the summer. When I think of fall, I think of all the delectable desserts me and my family like to enjoy. Did you know there is a new Guava Tapioca Pudding available at Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Club?

4. Fall Pictures in Paradise Make Your Friends Jealous
Volcano-Bay-Krakatau-Volcano
You know you’ve wanted to update that profile picture for a while. Photos taken at Volcano Bay in the fall will surely make all of your family and friends up north jealous that while they’re cold you’re still living in the summer.

5. Splash and Play
Universal's Volcano Bay TapuTapu Wearables
These advantages of the fall are not just limited to Volcano Bay as you and your family can experience everything that the fall has to offer at all three theme parks. Relish in the wonders of Volcano Bay and then park-hop so you can unleash your inner hero as you chart your own adventure through Universal’s Islands of Adventure or immerse yourself in the worlds of your favorite film and television stories at Universal Studios Florida.

With all that the fall has to offer, this is the perfect time to visit for one unapologetically awesome experience at Universal Orlando Resort. What are you most looking forward to about visiting?
