Mickey Mouse Marks Milestone With 90-Character Gathering at Magic Kingdom Park on ABC’s Good Morning America

Mickey Mouse Marks Milestone With 90-Character Gathering at Magic Kingdom Park on ABC’s Good Morning America

Earlier today, Mickey Mouse marked his 90th anniversary with a very special gathering in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park, which was televised live on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“Good Morning America” personalities Sam Champion and Ginger Zee joined Mickey on the Castle Forecourt stage, with Mickey debuting his new celebration outfit inside Magic Kingdom Park for the very first time. Ginger then introduced a surprise planned for Mickey Mouse by none other than Minnie Mouse, herself: a special gathering of all their pals at the park.

A whopping total of 90 Disney characters then flooded in through Cinderella Castle to surprise Mickey to the tune of the new song, “It’s a Good Time.” Check out the video above to watch this historic moment.

Also joining in on the celebration was Disney super fan Patrice Jenkins, whom “Good Morning America” had selected to accompany Ginger on a whirlwind trip to visit all six Disney theme park resorts around the world. The duo completed their journey arriving at Magic Kingdom Park, crossing the finish line for their epic journey on Main Street, U.S.A., just prior to Mickey’s celebration today.

Patrice, a longtime Disney fan and teacher from Chicago, held back tears as she described what the opportunity meant to her. Check out the video above to hear what Patrice and Ginger both had to say about their Disney travels.

Disney Parks in Silhouette: Halloween at Magic Kingdom Park

Halloween is nearly upon us and earlier this fall, silhouette artist Keith Lapinig headed out to explore Magic Kingdom Park and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party for a bit of artistic inspiration.

Orange Bird Silhouette helping with decorating Main Street for Halloween

Lock, Shock and Barrel Silhouettes at Magic Kingdom Park Yzma Silhouette at Magic Kingdom Park

This time of year, the front of the Train Station and Main Street, U.S.A., are brightened with Halloween decor, including fall-themed bunting, wreaths, larger-than-life pumpkins and scarecrows – which all served as terrific backdrops for some of Keith’s creations.

“For Orange Bird, I was inspired by the new Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card given out only at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so I placed the Orange Bird helping with decorating Main Street for Halloween” Keith said. He also placed Minnie Mouse atop a pumpkin at the very front of the park (pictured at the very top), while Lock, Shock and Barrel from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” had some fun of their own.

“They’re my favorite trick-or-treating characters,” Keith said. “So I placed them getting ready to go around all of the Magic Kingdom hoping to fill up their entire bathtub with candies.”

Later on down Main Street, U.S.A., Yzma adjusted a fall wreath.

Sinister Shadows Silhouette at Magic Kingdom Park

Over in Liberty Square, Keith imagined the Sinister Shadows waiting on the call of their friend, Dr. Facilier.

“Inspired by the ‘Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular’ at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, I wanted to conjure up some of Dr. Facilier’s sinister shadows in Liberty Square,” Keith sad. “I imagine them lurking here before it’s showtime when Dr. Facilier calls them up.”

The villainous fun continued as the sun set and the heat rose on Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which Keith imagined being taken over by more characters from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Oogie Boogie Silhouette watches over the Magic Kingdom Park

“Oogie Boogie watches over the Magic Kingdom and waits patiently for the sun to set so he may come out and play during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party,” Keith said.

Jack Skellington Silhouette at Magic Kingdom Park

And last, but not least, Jack Skellington made his debut.

“The fountains in the hub serve as the ideal grand entrance for the Pumpkin King himself for any Halloween festivities, so I had a lot of fun putting this together when there was no sun out,” Keith said.

Watch the Disney Parks Blog Team Transform for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Earlier this fall, the Disney Parks Blog team hosted a group of our readers at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party – and if there’s one thing our team loves to do, it’s to dress up in costume.

This year, we chose a pirate theme for our group costume. Our looks were inspired by the new pirates who interact with guests sailing through Pirates of the Caribbean exclusively during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Check out the video above for a look inside our adventurous transformations.

Sneak a Peek at this Year’s Very Merry Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Card

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party returns to Magic Kingdom Park November 8, and this year Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom fans can pick up a special game card inspired by Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room on party nights.

In case you’re new to the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom interactive game, guests can team up with Merlin to help defeat scheming Disney Villains who wish to take over Magic Kingdom Park. Guests locate villain hideouts throughout the park and visit magic portals where they use special spell cards to ward off the villain’s attack. Each spell card stars a different Disney character, each with their own unique powers.

The game begins at the Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A., where you can pick up complimentary spell cards and maps. Additional cards can be purchased at select merchandise locations.

According to Imagineer Jonathan Ackley, this year’s party exclusive card was whipped up by Merlin the Magician after he became enchanted with a quartet of caroling birds down in the tropics.

“These charismatic avian performers inspired Merlin to create a new charm to give his acolytes for the year’s holiday celebration,” Jonathan said. “The Disney Villains will need to watch out, or they’ll end up with egg on their faces!”
