The Orlando Public Library Hosts 2018 Orlando Children’s Business Fair
Young entrepreneurs will showcase their creativity, products, and services to the public

2018 Orlando Children’s Business Fair

What:

Ignite your child’s entrepreneurial passions as the Orlando Public Library hosts the Second Annual Orlando Children’s Business Fair on November 11. Kids and teens have an opportunity to showcase a product or service they have created, meet young inventors and entrepreneurs in the community and share their business ideas to the public during this free event.

Where:

Orlando Public Library

When:

The 2018 Orlando Children’s Business Fair will be held on Sunday, November 11 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

More Details:

The Orlando Children’s Business Fair, in partnership with Action Academy and Acton School of Business, is a one-day marketplace where children will debut their innovative inventions, market their services or products, and build marketing strategies. It is a part of the Orange County Library System’s BizKids initiative which introduces young people to classes and events with a focus on promoting entrepreneurship and skills such as planning, marketing, financing and more. The children are responsible for setting up their tables, sales and interacting with customers. Some of the businesses that have been accepted to participate this year include Happy Earth Soap Company, Sunshine Dolls and Crafty Creatives.

“Today’s youth are tomorrow’s business innovators and leaders,” says Jeff Sandefer, founder of the Action School of Business, one of the sponsors of the fair. “The Children’s Business Fair gives students the opportunity to spread their entrepreneurial wings and get a head start on promising business careers.”

Last year’s fair saw more than 20 youth-run businesses and over 400 people in attendance. Young vendors sold products to attendees such as artwork, soap, LEGO cars, baked goods, photographic services and much more.

Applications are open to OCLS card holders, ages 6–17 until Friday, October 12. For application information and rules, visit www.ocls.info/bizkids. Cash prizes of $50 will be awarded in each of the three age groups (6-8, 9-12 and 13-17) for “Most Business Potential”, “Most Creative Idea”, and “Most Impressive Presentation”.

In April 2018, OCLS received the Public Library Association’s Upstart Innovation Award in recognition for its BizKids program. The award recognizes a public library’s innovative, cutting-edge, creative service to their community. The library was presented with $2,000 and a plaque in their honor.
