Premier Men’s College Basketball Tournament Returns to Walt Disney World Resort Thanksgiving Weekend

If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World Resort around Thanksgiving and love college basketball, then you’ve struck gold.

As you plan your visits to Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you can also add a college hoops game or two to your vacation, because the AdvoCare Invitational will be underway at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The tournament runs Nov. 22-25 and includes a loaded field lauded by college basketball experts as one of the most competitive preseason tournaments in the nation this year.

Three of the eight teams in the AdvoCare Invitational are ranked in preseason top-25 polls – Florida State, LSU and 2018 NCAA National Champion Villanova. Alabama-Birmingham, Canisius College, College of Charleston, Memphis and Oklahoma State round out the field.

The tournament bracket features 12 games taking place over three days, with each team competing in one game per day. The AdvoCare Invitational championship game is Nov. 25.

So, in between exploring all of the fall magic taking place across Walt Disney World, be sure to visit ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for some great college hoops action! Visit ticketmaster.com to purchase tickets for the AdvoCare Invitational.

Final Atlanta Braves MLB Spring Training scheduled released for ESPN WWOS

The bats of Major League Baseball are warming up for playoffs in the 2018 season which means its time to start thinking about travel plans for Spring Training. If you’re a Disney fan who loves baseball, there’s no better time to visit Walt Disney World then when the Atlanta Braves are in training at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

Atlanta has held 21 previous seasons of spring training at ESPN WWOS. Alas, this is the last time the bat will swing for the braves as they prepare to move to a new stadium closer to other MLB teams in southern Florida.

That means you have 16 more home games at Champion Stadium to check out the Braves and other top MLB teams. The lineup includes the 2017 World Champion Houston Astros (Mar. 4, Mar. 17), New York Yankees (Mar. 18), New York Mets (Feb. 26, Mar. 23), and St. Louis Cardinals (Mar. 12). The first game is Feb 25 against the Nationals. The final game is March 23 against the Mets. Full schedule below.

Unless the Tampa Bay Rays decide to play a few games at ESPN WWOS, possibly during construction of their new stadium, this will mark the end of Major League Baseball at Champion Stadium. It’s a shame because Disney has built a beauty of a baseball stadium. Fans are very close to the action at Champion Stadium and there are lots of great opportunities to have group or corporate events too.

The departure of Major League Baseball doesn’t mean big league sports are entirely gone from ESPN Wide World of Sports. You still have an opportunity to catch some major league soccer teams from time to time and there are some good college sports still played at ESPN Wide World of Sports. Of Course, the NFL has been hosting the Pro Bowl in Orlando and all the non-game activities are centered at ESPN WWOS and it is scheduled to return in 2019 too.

NFL Pro Bowl Returns to Orlando and Walt Disney World Resort in 2019

The NFL has announced that the Pro Bowl is returning to Orlando for the third year in a row, which is good news for Walt Disney World and ESPN Wide World of Sports as the Pro Bowl Week activities will primarily be held at Disney in 2019.

The sports complex at Walt Disney World will again be football headquarters during the NFL’s All-Star game week, serving at the host site for AFC and NFC team practices, the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown, the NFL Flag Championships powered by USA Football, and more.

Pro Bowl practices will involve 88 of the NFL’s All-Stars – 44 from the AFC and 44 from the NFC – as determined by a consensus of votes by fans, players and coaches. Both teams will once again be led by offensive and defensive NFL Legends who will serve as captains representing each conference.

In 2018, the AFC Legends captains were Pro Football Hall of Famers Jason Taylor and LaDainian Tomlinson who combined for 11 Pro Bowls during their playing days. The NFC Legends captains were Pro Football Hall of Fame LB Derrick Brooks and three-time Pro Bowl RB Warrick Dunn. The 2019 NFL Legends captains will be announced later this year.

One of NFL Pro Bowl Week’s most interesting and most anticipated events is the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown – a series of unique competitions where AFC All-Stars and their NFC counterparts compete against each other. Key Pro Bowl Skills Showdown competitions include Dodge Ball, Kick, Tac Toe, best hands challenge, precision passing and the drone drop – a bonus event where one player from each team will attempt to catch footballs dropped from drones from increasing heights above the field. The player who records the highest catch total wins money for the charity of his choice.

Another popular event during NFL Pro Bowl Week is the NFL Flag Championships powered by USA Football. For the second straight year, sixty-four teams – eight regional champions in four divisions plus 32 at-large teams – will compete in the tournament. NFL Pro Bowl Legends will serve as guest coaches, encouraging the teams as they compete for the national championship.

The 13-14 Boys Championship Game will be aired on ESPN on Sunday, Jan. 27 as part of the network’s broadcast of the Pro Bowl at Camping World Stadium. Divisions include 9-10 coed, 11-12 coed, 13-14 boys and 13-14 girls.

Other NFL Pro Bowl Week activities include the NFL Pro Bowl Experience, the Special Olympics Flag Football game, Punt, Pass and Kick National Championship, the EA Sports Madden Bowl Challenge and more.

NFL Pro Bowl Week activities at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex are free and open to the public. That makes it a great opportunity for you to explore Disney World’s unofficial 5th gate if you’ve never been there before.

NFL Pro Bowl Week culminates January 27 with the NFL Pro Bowl game televised live on ABC, ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
