Disneyland now offering backstage culinary arts educational tour for students

Attention future chefs and foodies. The Disney Youth programs put an educational spin on a trip to Disney’s most popular theme park destinations. This gives classes and student groups the opportunity to learn from one of the leaders in the hospitality and entertainment industry. A new offering will add a culinary arts component to the menu.

The new program is aimed at future foodies or those who might be exploring a career in the culinary arts. It includes a backstage journey through a high-volume kitchen, bakery, and quick-service restaurant inside Disney California Adventure. At the end of the tour students will apply the learnings and develop their own ideas to add to an existing menu.

In the Disney Culinary Arts program students in grades seven through college discover how savory storytelling and top-notch ingredients can come together to fulfill their own culinary career aspirations. On this journey backstage through the kitchens of Disney California Adventure Park, students will learn everything from the basics of the kitchen to exploratory careers.

Some of the key learning objectives include:

  • Define key terms used by culinary professionals
  • Engage with professional chefs to discuss their culinary journey
  • Learn safe practices for receiving, storing, preparing and serving food
  • Discuss techniques for managing dietary restrictions and food allergies
  • Explore educational and professional opportunities in the culinary arts
  • Discover Disney’s culinary heritage and use of theming and storytelling through food
  • Examine the importance of teamwork and leadership in the kitchen setting
  • Understand the demands of different types of food service locations in an operating theme park

If you’ve seen marching bands or dancers in the parks, you’ve seen just a small part of the program. We like the idea of expanding it to some of the other areas that Disney has expertise in. Experiences and park admission can be combined for a discount.

Visit DisneyYouth.com to learn more or register your group of 10 or more students.

Disney Youth Programs Seeds Class

Disney Youth Programs Seeds Class – Your kids can have a unique learning opportunity with Walt Disney World’s Disney Youth Programs! Check out this new opportunity for park learning.

Disney Youth Programs Seeds Class

Disney Youth Programs is adding to its curriculum of unique learning opportunities that give students the chance to turn the Disney Parks into their classrooms. Starting in early 2019, students can uncover “The Science Behind the Seeds,” a program that explores sustainable food production and how emerging scientific methods can meet our future food needs.

The Science Behind the Seeds program, which takes students through Living with the Land at Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort, is a hands-on exploration of how science, technology, sustainability and teamwork combine to generate potential solutions to meet the needs of a growing population. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how plants are cultivated, about technologies that protect plants from pests and diseases without pesticides, as well as about new techniques to grow plants without soil, using mineral-nutrient solutions in a water solvent.

Students will also learn how to implement some of these processes at home, as well as discover new fruits, vegetables and grains for their own gardens.

The Science Behind the Seeds is a three-hour program offered to K-12 students in groups of 10 or more. Teachers and students can register for The Science Behind the Seeds, as well as learn about other educational opportunities available through Disney Youth Programs at Walt Disney World Resort by visiting DisneyYouth.com.

Disney Performing Arts celebrates dancers and more

The Disney Blog recently had an opportunity to go backstage and see how Disney’s Youth Programs play an important role in introducing the students of today to the performing arts. If you’ve been to the parks while a high school band marched ahead of the parade or a high school choir performed during the Candlelight Processional or performed as part of a dance competition at one of Disney’s resorts or ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, then you’ve seen the Disney Performing Arts program in action

Dance is an important part of the show everyday at Walt Disney World from parades, to shows, to character performances. Disney integrates the experience of its performers into the workshops and education experience student dancers can enjoy as part of their program. From rehearsing routines lifted right from Disney Parks shows to the chance to meet with professionals, these are once in a lifetime experiences for tomorrows performers.

Here’s a look at exactly what dancers will experience when they visit Disney Performing Arts program.

This is the closest your student will get to feeling what it’s like to be a Cast Member performing for Disney park guests without getting hired first.

Similar programs are available for theatrical arts (including stage management and costuming), instrumental, and vocal performances.

Start planning now for the next school break. Events aren opportunities are available year round, but we’re told that the best programs are available beginning mid-June through September.
