Captain Marvel Touches Down at Disney California Adventure Park in Early 2019

Early next year, Super Hero fans will flash back to the ‘90s when “Captain Marvel” opens in theaters on March 8, 2019, and for a limited time, Disneyland Resort guests will have the opportunity to encounter Captain Marvel herself.

Captain Marvel will join an already-epic lineup of heroes appearing at Disney California Adventure park including Black Panther and the Dora Milaje, Spider-Man and Captain America.

“Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure that follows the journey of ace Air Force pilot Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the most powerful heroes in the universe. When Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog, as we’ll have more information to share soon about Captain Marvel’s arrival at the Disneyland Resort.

Seven Sparkling Reasons to Stay at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort This Holiday Season

There’s nothing quite like the spending the holidays in the merriment and magic of Disneyland Resort – and making the most of it by staying in one of three on-property hotels. Here are seven sparkling ways you can make memories with your family and friends this holiday season, Nov. 9, 2018 – Jan. 6, 2019:

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Christmas Tree

Christmas Trees, Décor and More: The Craftsman-inspired décor at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa extends to the holiday decorations, from natural garlands to the towering Christmas tree lit with “arts and crafts” lanterns. The midcentury Disneyland Hotel receives a retro-holiday look with silver trees and bright colors. The nautical theming at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel features blue, green and silver holiday décor—along with shells and starfish garland—to create a seaside holiday setting.

“Grand” Gingerbread House and Holiday Treats: A highlight at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the giant gingerbread replica of the hotel, right in the lobby. Standing 7 feet tall and 12 feet wide, the structure is created from more than 600 pounds of gingerbread, 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 250 pounds of fondant, 1 pound of “pixie dust” glitter and features 25 hidden Mickeys! Nearby, you may purchase sweet treats such as Mickey snowflake cookies from the lobby’s holiday cart.

Santa Claus and Carolers: This year, Santa will visit each hotel from November 22 through December 24. Hotel guests are encouraged to meet, greet and take a seat with St. Nick! Also delightful are the joyful sounds of vocal performers and holiday carolers strolling throughout the holiday season at each resort hotel.*

Cars Land in Disney California Adventure park decorated for the Holidays

Extra Magic Hour: With easy, convenient access to both parks, guests staying at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort will make the most of their visit with Extra Magic Hour admission with their valid theme park ticket. Extra Magic Hour offers admission to a designated theme park one hour earlier than the general public, and is only available for guests who stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel. **

Christmas in your Disneyland Resort Hotel Room

Christmas Trees Delivered In Room: Parents, you can enlist Santa’s secret helpers to bring the spirit of the season right to your hotel room, surprising the kids with a 4-foot, pre-lit Christmas tree, holiday décor and gift baskets with candy canes, gingerbread-flavored popcorn and frosted pretzels. Afterward, the family’s tree—including all the ornaments—can be shipped home.***

Holiday apparel at World of Disney in the Downtown Disney District

Holiday Shopping: Gift shops at each hotel offer unique Disney treasures. Additional shopping is just steps from the hotels at the Downtown Disney District, a destination of its own with dining, entertainment and retail options. A must-visit site for Disney fans is the newly reimagined, 40,000 square-foot World of Disney. This store was redesigned to make shopping even easier and more entertaining with touches of pixie dust in the displays and merchandise collections. Other favorite boutiques are the Disney Home store and The Disney Dress Shop, which opened in 2018. Other shopping destinations include Sephora, PANDORA Jewelry and Curl Surf.

Vacation Values: It’s a season of savings with up to 25 percent off select rooms at Hotels of the Disneyland Resort for select Sunday-Thursday nights through December 20, 2018. Guests can save up to 20 percent on standard rooms and 25 percent on premium rooms at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa; up to 15 percent on standard rooms and 20 percent on premium rooms at Disneyland Hotel, and up to 10 percent on premium rooms at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. Luxo Jr. Animatronic Lamp arrives atop Pixar Pier Marquee

The animated drawing lamp known as ‘Luxo Jr.’ is the icon of Pixar Animation Studios. You’ve probably seen it as it jumps around and flattens the ‘I’ in the Pixar logo before the studios’ animated films. Now, fans visiting Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure can see Luxo Jr. in person atop the marquee entrance to the land.

You can find the bright and happy character between Knick’s Knacks and Lamplight Lounge.

This isn’t the first time Luxo Jr. has made an appearance in a Disney theme park. The plucky animatronic had a brief appearance in Pixar Place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. Alas, it had operational problems and was eventually removed.

Pixar Pier opened in June, but parts of the newly themed area of DCA weren’t ready quite yet. That included this iconic lamp. Now Pixar’s trusty icon is ready for prime time and we’re excited to see it in person on our next visit.

Still remaining to open in Pixar Pier are the reimagined Jessie’s Critter Carousel and the Inside Out Emotional Whirwind. Both are expected to open in 2019.

Ralph and Vanellope Go from Breaking the Internet to Visiting Disney Parks This Fall

Disney’s all-new animated adventure “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is coming to theaters November 21. To celebrate, Ralph and best friend Vanellope von Schweetz are once again venturing beyond Litwak’s arcade for special appearances in Disney Parks.

Beginning November 9, Disneyland Resort guests will find Ralph and Vanellope in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure park. They’ll also be heading east to Walt Disney World Resort, where you’ll be able to meet them at Epcot, starting November 21 in Innoventions West. And a new experiment will soon be underway at the Imagination Institute, creating a portal into other dimensions. This winter, that portal opens a window on the internet for Ralph and Venellope to step through for regular encounters with Epcot guests in the ImageWorks area of the Imagination! pavilion.

Who’s ready to see Ralph and Vanellope in Disney Parks and to check out their new movie, “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” this fall?

Behind-the-Scenes: Decorating the Disneyland Resort for Halloween Time

If you’ve had a chance to visit the Disneyland Resort during Halloween Time, it’s not hard to miss the giant Mickey Mouse jack-o’-lantern on Main Street, U.S.A in Disneyland park or the eerie Headless Horseman on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park.

However, what you may not have noticed at first glance is the fine detailed décor prepared by our resort enhancement team. While working the graveyard shift, these talented tricksters transform all of the window displays along both streets into spooky Halloween-themed scenes. The team is also responsible for enhancing many of the restaurants and shops at the Disneyland Resort with touches of the seasonal spirit.

“A Musical Celebration of Coco” is only part of the fun at Plaza de la Familia. From the iconic Mexican Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) photo location to the new craft activity where you can design your own paper alebrije mask of the characters Dante or Pepita, Plaza de la Familia fills the Paradise Gardens area of the park with live entertainment, delicious food, crafts and interactive experiences. You won’t want to miss it!
