Winter Park Annual Christmas in the Park 2018

Winter Park Annual Christmas in the Park 2018

Winter Park Annual Christmas in the Park 2018 – Enjoy the 40th Annual Christmas in the Park in Downtown Winter Park. It’s a free family event for the holidays.

Winter Park Annual Christmas in the Park 2018

What:

On Thursday, December 6, the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art and the City of Winter Park present the 40th Annual Christmas in the Park in downtown Winter Park.

Where:

Downtown Winter Park

When:

December 6, 2018

Cost:

Free

More Details:

The free outdoor event begins at 6:15 p.m. when the lights are turned up on nine century-old Tiffany leaded-glass windows and Central Park is transformed into a luminous concert hall for the esteemed 160-voice Bach Festival Society Choir. The choral performance concludes about 8 p.m., and the windows remain lighted for viewing
until 8:30 p.m.

Hugh and Jeannette McKean, who together built the Morse Museum’s collection, began Christmas in the Park in 1979 to share a part of their rare Tiffany collection with the public in an informal setting. The Morse and the City of Winter Park began cosponsoring the event in 2014.

For the 40th year of the event, the Morse will again install its windows and present the Bach Festival Society Choir, Youth Choir, and Brass Ensemble in concert. The city will oversee arrangements for park use, security, crowd management, traffic control, and road closures.

Eight of the windows featured at Christmas in the Park are memorials with religious themes designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany’s firm for installation in the chapel at the Association for the Relief of Respectable, Aged, Indigent Females (1814–1974) in New York City. Tiffany Studios’ Christmas Eve window, c. 1902, will also be on view at the event and in the Morse Museum following Christmas in the Park. The window—in which a figure resembling Father Christmas holds the Christ child—was designed by Thomas Nast Jr., son of the famous political cartoonist, for his sister’s home in New Rochelle, New York.

The Morse Museum houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, including the chapel interior he designed for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago and art and architectural elements from his Long Island estate, Laurelton Hall. The Morse is owned and operated by the Charles Hosmer Morse Foundation and receives additional support from the Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation. It receives no public funds.

For more information about other holiday events at the Morse Museum, please visit www.morsemuseum.org.

More Information:

Two Exciting New Ways to Get Around at Disney World

There's a few new ways to get around at Walt Disney World! These Disney World transportation changes will get guests moving around the resorts.

Looking for ways to get around at Disney? Here are a few ideas (including one that’s coming soon!)

Minnie Van Service Now Available Resort Wide

A new transportation service featuring vans themed to the oneand-only Minnie Mouse will soon be taking you everywhere you want to go at the Walt Disney World Resort. Just arrange a Minnie van and a Disney cast member will arrive and drive you anywhere you wish at the Resort in a magical way that only Disney can do. Through collaboration with the US’ fastest growing rideshare service, Lyft, guests at these resorts can arrange their own private Disney vehicle right from the Lyft app on their smartphone.

There's a few new ways to get around at Walt Disney World! These Disney World transportation changes will get guests moving around the resorts.

With Minnie Van service, Disney cast members will then whisk you away to wherever you want to be at Walt Disney World Resort. This service accommodates up to six guests and provides two versatile car seats so even the tiniest of passengers can travel in style! Minnie Van service will be available between 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. (subject to change). Guests staying at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts can learn more by visiting their Bell Services desk.

Disney Skyliner Transportation Announced

A brand new transportation system is coming to the Walt Disney World Resort to add even more magic to your future vacation experiences. Disney Skyliner will soon give guests a bird’seye view of Walt Disney World Resort. The transportation system will connect Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach resorts and other locations with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot. And many of the gondolas with Disney Skyliner will feature favorite Disney characters.

Disney Vacation Club announces next planned developments for Disney World, including a new resort and skyway gondola connecting the Parks to resorts.

6 Insider Tips for Experiencing Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort

Best Tips to Make the Most of Holidays at Universal

It’s that time of year – the time for Christmas trees, an endless amount of cookies, hot chocolate and quality time with family and friends. If you’re in the Orlando area and looking for a fun holiday activity, look no further than Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort running now through January 6.

From beloved classics like Grinchmas and Mannheim Steamroller to exciting new experiences like Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s – there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.

Since the parks do get busy during the holiday season, it’s best to come with a plan so you can see and do everything you want to do. To help with your planning, here are 6 insider tips to help maximize your visit.

1. Watch The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle Later in The Evening

Instead of rushing to Hogsmeade in Universal’s Islands of Adventure to see the first showing of The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle, head over for a later viewing before the park closes for the day. The first official showing is at 6:30 PM now through Dec. 17 and then 7 PM Dec. 18 – Jan. 6.

Fireworks at Universal Orlando

The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle runs intermittently until park close – so take your time, enjoy the new decor throughout the parks and grab a Hot Butterbeer (my favorite type of Butterbeer).

Entrance to Hogsmeade at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

2. Take the Scenic Route to Universal’s Islands of Adventure

I know what you’re thinking – “you want me to walk?” Just trust me! Although boarding The Hogwarts Express is popular route, by walking to Islands of Adventure from Universal Studios Florida, you’ll be sure to reach your daily step goal.

Once inside Islands of Adventure, hang a right and head through Lost Continent to the main entrance of Hogsmeade. This is the quickest way in, not to mention, you’ll be able to walk through Grinchmas in Seuss Landing where you’ll see beautiful Christmas decorations from the bingle balls to whofoo fluff.

3. Arrive Early and Grab a Hot Chocolate for the New Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s

Universal's Holiday Parade featuring Macy's

What is the holiday season without a parade? And the new Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s is one that you really don’t want to miss. With 16 new balloons and 15 floats, the parade is truly larger-than-life.

To get the best view, my tip is to hunker down along the streets of New York or Hollywood Blvd. at Universal Studios at least a half hour to 45 minutes before the start time of the parade. That way you’ll be up front and center in the streets of New York, where it snows! Can you imagine snow in Florida? Let me tell you – it’s magical.

4. Take a Closer Look at the Details

Decor in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

When enjoying Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, make sure you take a close look at the decor throughout the lands. The decor on the individual storefronts are specially themed for each shop. For example, the garland on Spindlewarps Wool Shop in Diagon Alley includes balls of yarn!

In addition, if you look at the Santa float during Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s, you’ll see a wish list wrapped around the globe that includes items that our Entertainment Team Members want for Christmas this year.

5. Dress Up For Grinchmas

And by dress up, I mean transform into a lean, mean, green machine. Grab your Grinch hat, gloves, shirt and frown before you make your way to the live retelling of Dr. Seuss’ Holiday classic in the Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular. That way you’ll feel in character when you sing along with the holiday music you know and love.

6. Rock Out to Mannheim Steamroller

If you’re a fan of live Christmas music with a rockin twist, you need to see Mannheim Steamroller. Make sure to plan your visit on a night when they are performing at Universal Studios Florida.

BONUS TIP FOR FLORIDA RESIDENTS:

For all my fellow Floridians, I have a bonus tip just for you.

7. Best Time to Experience it All is Before or Right After the Holidays

Yes, you read that right. Even theme parks experience the holiday rush, so I recommend planning a day trip (or staycation at one of our amazing on-site hotels!) either before or after Christmas and New Year’s. Our holiday celebration runs now through Jan. 6.

Universal's Holiday Parade

I hope these tips help you have the best holiday season ever at Universal Orlando Resort. If you have any insights from visiting yourself, comment below. Be sure to grab your tickets to join in on the fun and have a wonderful holiday season.
