See below for complete details on all of the ways guests can elevate their holidays at Universal Orlando Resort:

And now for the Holidays, it will transform into a wizarding wonderland with themed decorations, garlands and lights throughout the streets of Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. Guests can enjoy special holiday-themed performances by the Frog Choir – comprised of Hogwarts students and their giant croaking frogs – and Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees, one of the wizarding world’s most popular singing sensations. There will also be seasonal food and beverages – including hot Butterbeer.

And, as night falls, guests will revel in a dazzling projection of holiday spirit as Christmas moments inspired by the Wizarding World come to life on Hogwarts castle for “The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle.”

Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s at Universal Studios Florida

Merry and mayhem combine as Santa Claus, the Minions and other beloved characters from Illumination’s Despicable Me, Shrek and Madagascar take the streets for Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s – including more than 30 larger-than-life balloons and floats, hundreds of performers and more.  Guests may also get the opportunity to dance and interact with some of the characters during special appearances prior to the parade.

Grinchmas at Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Guests can enjoy “Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular” – a live retelling of Dr. Seuss’s holiday classic starring the mean, green one – and special appearances by the merry Whos from Who-ville throughout Seuss Landing. Guests may also join the Grinch and his friends at Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous for a separately ticketed breakfast on select dates (tickets for this festive breakfast are now available).

Universal Studios Florida will host its biggest New Year’s Eve celebration yet – complete with rockin’ party zones at the Music Plaza Stage and Central Park areas of the park, live upbeat music, appearances by some of guests’ favorite characters, party favors, confetti and – of course – pyrotechnics.  It’s fun for the entire family and it’s included with theme park admission, or with a Preferred or Premier Annual Pass.

Guests 21 and up can enjoy the ultimate upscale party at EVE at Universal CityWalk, where they get access to six CityWalk clubs with live bands and DJs, unlimited gourmet cuisine, and the chance to dance all night long on Orlando’s largest outdoor dance floor featuring award-winning DJ M-Squared. “Light Up Madison”–A Holiday Celebration in Natural North Florida, December 1, 2019

The town of Madison, in Madison County, always goes “all out” for Christmas.  Not only do local businesses dress up their storefronts, but folks from neighboring towns and counties enjoy an afternoon of shopping, dining and watching an elaborate Christmas parade.  The events begin at 4PM and end with the spectacular nighttime parade.

Madison is located on US90, about midway between Tallahassee and Interstate 75.  The city is centered on Four Freedoms Park and the restored Madison County Courthouse.

Madison’s annual holiday celebration is a “Light Up” event, culminating in a nighttime parade, that follows the arrival of Santa.  There’s plenty of food and entertainment throughout the afternoon, so plan to enjoy one of north Florida’s most beautiful small towns this season.

Downtown Christmas Open House and Parade–Perry, Florida–December 7, 2018

Leave it up to our friends in Taylor County to come up with a new “twist” on Christmas.  This year, in addition to a “Santa’s Little Helpers” parade, there will be a tribute to “Sheriff Taylor” at the “MayPerry Christmas” festivities.

Perry, the vibrant County Seat of Taylor County, is the perfect place to gather the community for some great food, a Santa appearance, a cake walk and some shopping at Arts and Crafts tents.  There will also be extended shopping hours at local stores, as well as a “shopping passport promotion”.

Downtown Perry has several historic building nestled around the modern courthouse.  Plan to take a walk around town while you’re there.  And if you arrive early, don’t miss one of the famous (at least to this writer!) donuts at Johnson’s Bakery, just off the courthouse square on Jefferson Street.

New Christmas Video from Voctave! A Capella voices from EPCOT

Voctave, which draws many of its members from EPCOT’s beloved “Voices of Liberty” a capella group in the American Pavilion, is out with its first Christmas video of 2018 and it’s a fantastic mashup of two classic songs. For Unto Us A Child A Born and Joy To The World cover the same territory in the story of Christmas and the arrangement by Jamey Ray unite them in perfect harmony. Add the vocal talent of Voctave and you have a new holiday favorite:

If you aren’t in the Christmas spirit after that. I don’t know what to tell you.

This recording is available on iTunes and Amazon as part of Voctave’s album ‘Snow’ if you want to add it to your digital collection.

Disneyland’s ‘it’s a small world’ Holiday 2018 edition

Disneyland really lights up around the holidays. One of the most memorable holiday attractions has to be “it’s a small world” Holiday which decorates its iconic facade with thousands of twinkling lights and changes over its interior to reflect the distinctive holiday traditions celebrated by children from around the world.

This is the 22nd year to see the holiday version with all its dolls and toys and a chance to reflect on its importance with Joe Peters, Technical Director, Disney Parks Live Entertainment.

“The holiday version of this Disneyland classic debuted in 1997, and I’ve had the pleasure of working on it since the first transformation 22 seasons ago,” said Peters. “Every year, it brings me so much joy to watch the first guests hurry over to be amongst the first to ride ‘it’s a small world’ Holiday. The most emotional experience is watching guests gasp in awe as they marvel at the exterior of the attraction, just as the sun sets and the lights come on. I never get tired of watching their reactions. I am reminded each time how lucky I am to do what I do.”

“This year, be sure to look for the new gingerbread archway in the European scene of “it’s a small world” Holiday,” added Peters. “The arch is adorned with an adorable gingerbread boy and girl and oversized candy canes. And the finale room is more vibrant than ever with a new color palate and LED lights on the greeting signs this year.”

Thanks to LaughingPlace we have a video of the 2018 edition of the classic holiday attraction:

I love the “A Christmas Fantasy” parade music in the background as the ride starts. One of my favorite Disney parade soundtracks, even if it’s a pretty short loop.

Is a ride on “it’s a small world holiday” a part of your holiday tradition at Disneyland?

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Family Video Review

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Family Video Review – There’s fewer ways to get into the holiday spirit than with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! Check out our video recap and Family Review below.

In November 2018, we were invited to experience Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom, and no one says NO to Mickey. So, I brought along some of our “Mom-tributors” for this event for some perspective on this fun family event.

Now, it’s considered normal to wear matching t-shirts or PJ’s to this event. So, we decided to go with matching PJ’s. They were certainly a hit and helped us get into the festive Disney holiday spirit. I highly recommend planning your fashion well in advance to find the perfect look for your family!

At this event, you’ll experience diminished crowds (though it was more crowded than I remember), a castle lighting with Elsa, Anna, Oaf and Kristoff, 2 parades (same parade, different times) where you can see your favorite Disney characters AND Santa, fireworks, free snacks and drinks (different options at each stop), snow falling on Main Street and so much more. Be sure to research all of your options ahead of time to ensure you maximize your opportunities and have a plan!

While we caught a great spot for the castle lighting, we go trapped near Splash Mountain and missed out on a good spot for the parade. We saw guests grabbing their spots 30-45 minutes ahead of time, so plan accordingly.

The rest of the festivities just don’t disappoint. We highly recommend this event for your family (just be sure to take naps to hold out until the end of the night)!

Below, check out our Top 5 Suggestions for attending this event:

  1. You can arrive at 4 PM (even though the event doesn’t begin until 7 PM). Maximize your time in the park and arrive early!
  2. Dress in festive fashion. Plan ahead and get in the spirit with some fun t-shirts or PJ’s.
  3. Take advantage of the diminished wait times on rides. We still experienced 30 minute lines, but on rides that can see 60+ minute waits at normal times.
  4. Don’t miss the castle lighting, the parade (and get a good seat), the free snacks and treats, or the fireworks. They make the event worthwhile and exciting!
  5. Don’t miss the photo opportunities! This was an image a friend of mine shared the very next night at the event. We saw the line for the photo and opted to bypass it. We had no idea it would be THIS great:

Don’t pass things by…there are fun family memories at every turn. (This photo is taken in Repunzel’s area next to It’s a Small World).

Enjoy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas with your family. We hope you make some fun family memories with this annual special event!

New Christmas tree debuts at Disneyland

This year the start of the holiday season at Disneyland welcomed a new 60ft tall Christmas tree to the iconic Town Square location on Main Street U.S.A.. 1,500 new decorations reflect the turn-of-the-(last)-century Victorian era of Main Street. The 100 oversized faux candles on the tree flicker at night making for a beautiful warm period effect.

“We are the only theme park in California that has this wonderful turn-of-the-century Victorian Main Street, and for the holidays we create a Victorian Christmas,” said Kim Irvine, Art Director Walt Disney Imagineer. ‘You’re going to feel like you’ve stepped into another time and place with the beautiful lights, pine garland, the music and the new tree.”

When you cross under the train tracks into Town Square you’re eyes are immediately drawn to the Christmas tree and it sets the tone for the rest of your visit. New new ornaments give a level of authenticity and detail that sets Disneyland’s holiday celebration apart and makes it a must-do experience for families all holiday season.

“Be sure to look for the candles on the tree. They look like the real flickering candles you see in movies and pictures of old-time Christmas,” said Irvine. “It adds a really fun dimension to the tree this year.”

Have you seen the new tree at Disneyland yet? What do you think of the Victorian decorations and flickering candles? IF you get your family photo taken by the tree this year, please share it with us on social media.
