Video: Magic Kingdom transforms almost overnight for the winter holidays

Walt Disney World’s holiday elves have been busy transforming the parks from one holiday to the other. The work is done largely by the Holiday Services department and a special team of set dressers and horticultural experts who flip the Magic Kingdom from Halloween to Holidays in pretty much just one night.

Watch this fun video as Disney offloads and hangs six trailers of decorations, including one 65-foot-tall Christmas Tree in less than seven hours.

Everything should be up and ready to go in time for the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which kicks off this Thursday, November 8.

What do you think of this year’s holiday decor at the Magic Kingdom?

Celebrity Spotting: Mackenzie Foy, Star of “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” meets Mickey Mouse at Walt Disney World

Mackenzie Foy, who plays Clara in Walt Disney Studios’ upcoming holiday fantasy adventure Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” enjoyed her first ever visit to Walt Disney World this past weekend. During her visit, Mackenzie met Mickey Mouse and posed for photo in front of Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom then shrunk down to the size of a toy to enjoy some fun in Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

If MacKenzie Foy looks familiar you may remember her from her role of Renesmee Cullin in 2012’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” and the epic 2014 blockbuster “Intersteller.”

Catch the final trailer for Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” here:

About the film:

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.

See “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” at Disney Springs AMC 24 or a theater near you when it opens this Friday, Nov. 2.

If you hurry, you can still catch a preview of “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Watch the Disney Parks Blog Team Transform for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Earlier this fall, the Disney Parks Blog team hosted a group of our readers at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party – and if there’s one thing our team loves to do, it’s to dress up in costume.

This year, we chose a pirate theme for our group costume. Our looks were inspired by the new pirates who interact with guests sailing through Pirates of the Caribbean exclusively during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Check out the video above for a look inside our adventurous transformations.

Disney Doodle: Ursula Visits Ariel’s Grotto – in Disguise!

In our Disney Doodle series, different Disney artists take turns imagining what different Disney characters would do or see first if they could visit a Disney Park.

In today’s Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what Ursula would do if she could visit Magic Kingdom Park at this time of year. According to her, Ursula may use Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party as the perfect chance to visit Ariel.

“Ursula is a master of disguise,” Ashley said. “It’s easy to imagine her turning into Vanessa to pay Ariel a visit in her grotto!

All in the Details: Behind the Haunted Mansion’s Tombstones

The tombstones at the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom Park showcase clever sayings, rhymes and play-on-words that really catch guests’ attention as they make their way into the attraction.

In this video, shared by Walt Disney Imagineering, we hear how many of these tombstones pay tribute to famous Disney Legends and Imagineers who helped create the attraction to life years ago. For example, one headstone’s reference to “Master Gracey” refers to Imagineer Yale Gracey, a special effects extraordinaire who brought the spirits of the Haunted Mansion to life, as well as “Grandpa Marc,” aka Marc Davis, who was the artist behind the stretching portraits. Other references include “Haunting Harriet” Harriet Burns, WED Enterprises’ first female employee who created models for the attraction, “Brother Claude” or Claude Coats, who developed the mansion’s interior and more.

Watch as Imagineers Daniel Joseph and Stacy Shoff offer up the details in the video above.
